New Zealand
George VI Proof Crown 1949 PR66 PCGS, KM22, Remick-Y27. Estimated Mintage: 3. Struck to commemorate the proposed visit of George VI to New Zealand. An exceedingly rare offering of a type with an estimated mintage numbering a mere three examples in Proof. Dressed in a gentle veil of silver patina across the surfaces, which combine needle-sharp detail in the devices with watery reflectivity in the fields. No significant contact marks are noted whatsoever, and indeed, the King's portrait remains as silky as the day the offering was struck over 70 years ago! Tied for the finest certified by PCGS to date across a census numbering 5 examples, which seemingly points to either a slightly higher mintage than estimated or some degree of recertification. In either case, a wonderful gem and a very rare opportunity.
