Yemen
al-Nasir Ahmad bin Yahya gold 1/2 Riyal (2 Sovereigns) AH 1371 (1951/1952) MS66 PCGS, San'a mint, KM-G16.1, Fr-9, Kazan-Unl. By all indications a very scarce type date, represented by only a single other example in sales archives of the past several decades--an NGC MS65, which hammered for 8200 CHF in 2012. Entirely unsurpassed within the certified population, the coin at hand appears essentially absent of any serious marks, its golden surfaces lustrous and entirely original with a noticeably velvety texture, resulting from the preparation of the dies. Wholly covetable, and certainly among the noteworthy rarities of the Mutawakkalite Imams of Yemen.
