Ancients
Marc Antony, as Imperator and Triumvir (43-30 BC). AR denarius (21mm, 3.60 gm, 11h). NGC VF 5/5 - 2/5, bankers marks. Military mint moving with Marc Antony, ca. 40 BC. Bare head of Marc Antony right; lituus behind / M·ANT·IMP / III·VIR·R·P·C, Caduceus between two cornucopiae, all three set on globe. Crawford 520/1. Sydenham 1189. Antonia 35. Extremely rare, only four examples in sales archive.
This rare Marc Antony type was unique because it was minted with only Antony's name, and not with a moneyer, co-ruler, or his commander (Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus). This might be an early sign of the growing tensions between Octavian and himself and the breaking of the Second Triumvirate.
