Ferdinand VII gold 4 Escudos 1817 So-FJ VF20 PCGS, Santiago mint, KM77, Cal-1740, MC-54. Inverted mintmark variety. Mintage: 68. A by-all-indications exceedingly scarce Chilean 4 Escudos, standing as the final date for which the denomination was minted at Santiago, with purportedly just 68 examples struck. Indeed, this is only the second example of the date we have ever offered (the other being the standard mintmark variety), and was altogether missing from the Eliasberg Collection. Excluding the aforementioned piece that we offered in 2008, we know of only 4 other examples having come to market in the last 20 years. For the sake of completeness, we note a small lamination or flan flaw to the right of the reverse shield.
