Napoleon III bronze "Siam Ambassadors Received" Medal 1861-Dated MS66 Brown NGC, Divo-438. 73mm. By Alphée Dubois. A highly impressive Medal struck to commemorate the reception of Siamese ambassadors of Rama IV at Fontainebleau, rendered in deep relief upon an expansive chestnut canvas devoid of major imperfection and peppered with the occasional spot of tone. An interesting relic from a time when France wished to expand their colonial presence in Southeast Asia, contemporaneously establishing the neighboring French colony of Cochin China. While PCGS distinguished this issue as a Specimen striking, whereas NGC does not, we can assumed that they are one and the same, and as such, is currently the finest certified and is expected to garner bidder enthusiasm consistent with that fact. Accompanied by a 19th century green felt-lined case.
