Henneberg-Ilmenau. Bernhard III Taler 1697-BA AU58 NGC, Ilmenau mint, KM28, Dav-7487A, Merseburger-4355. "THALR" variety. Displaying a superb array of subtle neon silhouettes throughout and lit aglow by a prominent reflectivity to the outer registers, the piece at hand remains an impressive survivor of a type rarely witnessed at auction, coming to market only a handful of times in recent decades. A visually intriguing example of this yield Taler, the obverse proudly showcasing a meticulously detailed hen while the reverse pays homage to the miners and yield for which this issue is responsible. Certainly one of the more attractive specimens certified just shy of Mint State designations.
