Kings of All England. Cnut (1016-1035) Penny ND (1024-1030) MS65 NGC, London mint, Aelfget as moneyer, Pointed Helmet type, S-1158, N-787, EMC-1066.2825 (same dies). 1.00gm. +CNVT | R•EX Λ•NG, bust of Cnut left wearing pointed helmet, scepter held before / +ÆL•FGET ON L[...]NDE, voided short cross with limbs united at base by two circles, pellet at center, broken annulet enclosing pellet in each angle. Already an immediately noteworthy grade for Cnut's coinage, and only the third example of this Pointed Helmet type in MS65 of any mint and moneyer we have offered. This particular moneyer further appears quite scarce, and known only for this issue, with just 4 examples in recent auction records and 15 in the Early Medieval Corpus. Sold with old tray tags.
