Great Britain
Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) Penny ND (1050-1053) MS63 PCGS, London mint, Godric as moneyer, Expanding Cross type, S-1176, N-820. +EDǷER | •D RE E:, diademed bust of Edward left, scepter held before / +GΘDRIC ΘN LVNDN, voided short cross with expanding limbs; two circles at the center. Thoroughly gorgeous and highly distinctive in its die style, with just a hint of ghosting in the upper obverse field. Almost certainly a cabinet piece, we would note that neither the Early Medieval Corpus, nor the Portable Antiquities Scheme records another example of this mint-moneyer for the type from the same dies.
