Qajar. Nasir al-Din Shah gold Toman AH 1272 (1856) MS61 NGC, Rasht mint, KM861.2, A-2925 (R), cf. Farahbakhsh-10 (this mint-date combination not listed). 3.43gm. Portrait type. A strikingly rare issue from Nasir al-Din's long reign as Shah, and the first coin of the Qajar dynasty to depict a ruler's portrait. Though most known examples were minted in the capital of Tehran, only very few are recorded from other mints, with Album only recording Astarabad and that "other mints may exist" in the 3rd edition of his Checklist.
