Parma. Maria Luigia gold 40 Lire 1815 MS61 NGC, KM-C32, Fr-933. Struck in the name of Marie Louise, second wife of Napoleon who reigned as Duchess of Parma from 1814. The first year of this two-date, fleeting type remains popular in part for its historical association with the Napoleonic Wars, but also because of this particular piece's advanced aesthetic caliber, perhaps even a touch Prooflike, showcasing an obverse above and beyond what is expected from the MS61 designation and limited by marks and wisps throughout the obverse.
