Meiji gold 5 Yen Year 19 (1886) MS66+ NGC, Osaka mint, KM-Y11a, JNDA 01-3A. Of superb gem preservation and very nearly without flaw, this brilliant jewel 5 Yen stands apart as the finest certified example yet recognized by PCGS and NGC. The closest example at PCGS ranks a mere MS64, while only three other examples have been certified Mint State by NGC to date, the closest an MS66, and the other two MS63 and MS65. Flashy brilliance dominates an initial visual impression, with swirling flow lines meandering fields that remain nearly undisturbed by handling, establishing a firm sense of visual quality that has yet to be surpassed for this conditionally elusive date.
