AUSTRIA. Bronze Johan & Joseph Frank Medal, ND (c. 1821). NGC MS-66.

52 mm; Storer-77. By Broggi. Conjoined busts left of Johan Peter Frank and his son Joseph, inscription "JOAN. PETR. FRANK ET JOSEPH. FILIUS." in small letters below busts "DE MAYNO/ CUR. EX. TEST."; Reverse: "SCIENTIA AUXILIUM PRAESENS HUMANITATE COMITE" around a wreathed staff of Aesculapius. Commissioned by Joseph to memorialize his father, Johann, who was Director-General of Public Health in Lombardy and author of the definitive 9 volume "System Einer Vollstandigen Medicinischen Polizey" (A Complete System of Medical Policy) first published in 1779. According to Storer, this medal was struck for distribution to medical and numismatic organizations. Dark, evenly patinated mahogany bronze.NGC MS-66.
