(t) CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang). 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 24 (1898). Tientsin (East Arsenal) Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details.
L&M-449; K-191; KM-Y-65.2; WS-0616. Variety with dragon's eyes in relief. This incredibly lovely example is quite pleasant to behold, given the attractive toning on the surfaces and sharp details that are only slightly touched by wear. The tooling referenced by PCGS appears to be a few intentional marks on the dragon's tail where minor encrustation was removed. That said, these marks are almost invisible without the aid of magnification, lending itself to this piece's exceptional overall appearance for the grade.
Estimate: $1250 - $1750
