CHINA. Contemporary Counterfeit Dollar, ND (1916). Imitating Tientsin Mint. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED Details.
cf.L&M-942; cf.K-663; cf.KM-Y-332; cf.WS-0097. A very interesting contemporary counterfeit mimicking the famous Yuan Shih-kia/Flying Dragon type. Some distinct differences from the original are noted, most especially the shape of the nose and the relief of the details. Somewhat crudely produced, with undulating texture within the mimicking dies. Some tooling also appears when the fields are closely inspected, however it doesn't significantly alter the appearance in hand. A very neat and intriguing lot.
Accompanied with an original collector flip that notates the following: "I purchased this in Shanghai - 1946 from either SC Wong or from Chang Huang."
Estimate: $400 - $600
