(t) CHINA. Gold 5 Mace (1/2 Tael) Ingot, ND (ca. 1940s). Graded "UNC" by Huaxia Coin Grading Company.
cf. L&M-1075. Weight: 15.6 gms. Featuring an obverse stamping of the serial number, purity, and weight of the ingot in three respective lines, the reverse features an incuse rendering of ancient Chinese spade money, which will immediately harken back to reverse design of minor coinage in the late Republican series. This example shows no real evidence of handling and retains a handsome golden sheen, though there is some crudeness to the manufacture. An interesting piece that is sure to appeal to collectors of both Sycee and Republican types. This specimen is by all accounts SCARCE, as it is the first one of its type we have offered.
Estimate: $1250 - $1750
