CHINA. Hunan Soviet. Fantasy Silver Dollar, "1931". UNCIRCULATED.
cf. L&M-885; cf. K-801; cf. KM-1.1; cf. WS-1331. Weight: 23.61. One of the more intriguing pieces offered, this lot appears to be a contemporary or very old imitative forgery in silver modeled after the Soviet Dollar struck for Hunan in 1931 that is EXCESSIVELY RARE. The fabric of the piece appears very old, with it's lack circulation and significant light weight pointing to its likelihood as a collector's copy (rather than an intended forgery). This piece was consigned alongside the Yunnan "Spring" Dollar imitative type that is within the Rarities section of this auction and was certified by NGC, however unlike that item, this piece was not plated in Kann's Illustrated Catalog of Chinese Coins, so NGC has deemed it a "Ineligible Type" for grading. Nonetheless, an extremely exciting item that represents an opportunity for the Soviet specialist to acquire a design type that is virtually unobtainable as an original item.
