CHINA. Republic of China. Presidential Inauguration of Tuan Chi Jui Breast Star, November 24, 1924. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
Weight: 141.52 gms; 100 mm. Eight-pointed silver breast star with eight-pointed star with yellow, gray, white and green enameled rays superimposed; the central medallion is composed of the familiar effigy of President Tuan Chi Jui (Peaceful Unification Dollar, L&M-865) with black, gray, white and green enamel, bare background and head. The outer ring of the central medallion in red enamel consists of the identical legend as the Dollar (L&M-865) in the upper half "Zhong Cao Ming Guo Zhi Zheng Ji Nian Zhang" (Commemorative badge of the Republic of China) with the exception that the last character is different than what appears on the coins. The lower portion of the legend, divided by two five-pointed yellow enamel stars, represents the date in which Tuan Chi Jui became President, "Shi San Nian Shi Yi Yue Nian Si Ri" (13th Year, 11th Month, 24th Day [November 24, 1924]). The reverse is fairly plain, but is stamped with "Lao Tian Li Zhi" just below the tunic pin, "055" is stamped below. Aside from a few as made minor imperfections the enamel is fully intact with no signs of chips or cracks. Upon close inspection the open areas of the central medallion do exhibit evidence of a past cleaning, long since toned over and attractive. The base star is nicely preserved and attractively toned a mottled gray patina with areas of richer coloration. This is the first offering of this highly interesting and historical type that we are aware of and is sure to pique the interest of many medals collectors.

Estimate: $1000 - $2000
