FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Silvered-Bronze Uniface Piastre Essai Set (2 Pieces), 1931. Paris Mint. Both are PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
Issued to Charles Regismanset for his service and involvement with the colonial office given by the artist E.M. Lindauer. Inscribed on the obverse rim "A Monsieur Ch. Regismanset Hommage de L'Auteur" (To Mr. Ch[arles] Regismanset as tribute by the artist). These large-format artist presentation issues are identical to that of the adopted design with the exception that the privy marks on the reverse at 6 o'clock were not added and that diameter is approximately 20 mm larger in size. The surfaces offer a matte finish with slate patina in the peripheries and amongst the devices adding to their pleasing appearance. Since each of these sets were inscribed and given to specific individuals, each set is UNIQUE. Due to the large diameter of these issues, both are housed in PCGS oversized holders.

1) Obverse Silvered-Bronze Uniface Piastre, ND (1931). Lec-312a. Diameter: 53 mm.

2) Reverse Silvered-Bronze Uniface Piastre, 1931. Lec-312a. Diameter: 53 mm.

Mr. Regismanset was appointed Director of the General Agency for the Colonies between 1924-26, later he was appointed to the Inspector General of Justice and Attorney General at the Court of Cassation of the State of Syria. He was also an avid writer as a novelist, poet and philosopher and is credited as being one of the first to have written on "exotic literature" as a genre in 1911.

Estimate: $10000 - $15000
