INDIA. Baroda. Silver 1/3 Mohur Restrike or Pattern, VS 1995 (1938). Pratap Singh (under George VI as Emperor). PCGS MS-63.
KMX-M40a. The exact nature of this piece is unclear, it has paradoxically been called both a restrike of, and a pattern for, the Gold Mohur of the same year. The general type has been removed from the Standard Catalog of World Coins and been placed in Bruce Unusual, but even still there is much uncertainty. No matter the complete back story, this off-metal strike appears to be an EXCEPTIONALLY RARE piece that honors the coronation of Pratap Singh. The present unhandled example gives a slightly matted look to the luster and is altogether charming. To view all items from the Yashoda N. Singh Collection, click
