INDIA. Bharatpur. Nazarana Rupee, VS 1914 (1858). Bharatpur Mint. Jaswant Singh (under Victoria as Empress). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details.
KM-166. Broad planchet variety. One of the most interesting examples offered, this exceptional Nazarana Rupee can be distinguished from circulation strikes on account of its strike on a broad flan, differing from circulation issues that were struck on planchets smaller than the dies. Likely produced for presentation purposes, this example dates from the time of the Sepoy Rebellion, and features prominently a portrait of Victoria. Bharatpur allied with the British, and played a major role in suppressing the Rebellion, providing troops. Though this example has been handled and cleaned, the exceptional background of the piece makes its an incredible example, one that is unlikely to be offered anytime in the immediate future after this sale. As such, much competition is expected, and the RARITY should help push the price further upwards. To view all items from the Yashoda N. Singh Collection, click
