KOREA. Order of the Eight Trigrams (Palgoe Jung), ND (Instituted April 16, 1901). Average Grade: EXTREMELY FINE.
This interesting Order was first established on the sixth anniversary of Korean independence in eight classes on April 16, 1901 under number 10 of the Order of Merit decree. It was conferred upon officials depending on their official rank and were differentiated by the Eight Trigrams. This set is house in the original case of issue.

1) Second Class Breast Star (82 mm). Baroc-36: Silver six-ray tri-pointed star, each with blue enamel centers and white enamel borders, between are three bi-pointed rays, emanating from a central silver medallion with the second trigram in red enamel. The central medallion is upside down indicating being repaired and as such looks like the fifth Trigram. On the reverse the tunic pin on the right appears to have snapped off and crudely soldered back in place with evidence of severe tooling. Aside from some superficial marks, the enamel is intact.

2) Third Class Neck Badge (59 mm). Baroc-37: Silver six-rayed tri-pointed star, each ray blue with white borders, emanating from a central silver medallion with the third trigram. White silk ribbon with outer red stripes. Close inspection of the reverse reveals harsh cleaning with light attractive tone. The enamel on the obverse exhibits a few cracks and other imperfections.

3) Lapel Pin (10 mm): Gray silk with the second tri-gram.

Estimate: $2000 - $3000
