PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details. Countermark: EF Details.
KM-63; Basso-55; PNM #6, 35; PNM #16, 87; PNM #21, 58; Gil-5-4-!-IV. Type V countermark: crowned F.7.o within circular incuse. Countermark applied to the obverse of an 1807-Mo TH 8 Reales from Mexico. A fairly RARE host for the type, with research indicating that this is the only example known for this particular version of the Ferdinand VII countermark with this host. A number of other countermarks are observed on each side, along with a rather interesting, and somewhat comical, punch on the eye of Charles IV, giving a rather startled and surprised look to the former monarch.
Estimate: $1500 - $2500
