PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Chile. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. NGC AU Details--Whizzed. Countermark: AU Standard.
KM-108; Basso-56; Gil-5-4-1-II. Type VI countermark: crowned Y.II. within circular incuse. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834 and suppressed 31 March 1837 (by decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the reverse of an 1834-SANTIAGO IJ 8 Reales from Chile. Despite the noted whizzing, this barely handled countermarked issue presents a rather alluring deep color that has begun to take hold. Meanwhile, all of the design elements remain quite sharp and bold.
