PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. NGC AU-55; Countermark: AU Standard.
KM-128; Basso-56; PNM#6-not listed; PNM#16-257; PNM#21-VIII-77; Cacho-IX-CS-73; Gil-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Applied to the obverse of an 1833-Pi JS Mexico Republic 8 Reales. This incredibly beautiful example renders very little evidence of handling and some attractive soft luster on the understruck coin. The counterstamp is not particularly strong, essentially being of average strength, though certainly still clear. Certain to be much contested for, as very few examples of the type survive in this nice of condition.
Estimate: $1250 - $1750
