PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. NGC EF-45; Countermark: EF Weak.
KM-128; Basso-56; PNM#6-not listed; PNM#16-257; PNM#21-VIII-77; Cacho-IX-CS-73; Gil-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Applied to the obverse of an 1831-Zs OM Mexico Republic 8 Reales. This nice example demonstrates a lovely host coin, with only light evidence of circulation and wear. Some flashiness remains, and the overall deep gray surfaces are brightened by a nice complexion of rainbow toning. Though not the strongest, the countermark is still well visible on the cap.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
