PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS EF-40. Countermark: AU Details.
KM-Unlisted; Basso-56; PNM #6, 136; PNM #16, 304; PNM #21, Unlisted; Cacho-Unlisted; Gil-5-3-2-IV. Type VI countermark: crowned Y.II. within circular incuse. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834 and suppressed 31 March 1837 (by decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of an 1832-Do RM/L 8 Reales from Mexico. A somewhat more available date for this sought-after mint, we have eight documented examples with three different crown varieties. The countermark is boldly applied to a beautifully preserved host coin that displays lovely, rich, and old cabinet toning with an iridescent sheen that pops out when rotated in the light. This wholly original survivor boasts great eye appeal and is sure to catch the attention of many collectors.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
