Commodus. AD 180-192- Æ bi-metallic gold-plated medallion (40 mm, 58,95 g). Struck in Rome, AD 185. M COMMODVS ANTONINVS AVG PIVS BRIT / PM TR P X IMP VII COS IIII PP, Nude Hercules standing facing, holding club and lion skin and crowning himself with a wreath; olive tree in left field and lighted altar in right field. Some tooling and smoothing of hard red deposits on reverse. Traces of gold-plating. Countermarked on the edge with a double-headed eagle, the symbol of the Este family.
