SICILY. Katane. Circa 464-450 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.70 g, 2 h). Bald and bearded head of Silenos to right. Rev. KAT-ANE Thunderbolt with wings and volutes above; below the volutes, gorytos. SNG ANS 1237 (same dies). SNG Oxford 1703. Darkly toned, and with bold types, perfect centering, and a head of Silenos immediately reminiscent of that on the famous tetradrachm of Aetna in Brussels. Extremely fine.
