ISLANDS OFF IONIA, Chios. Circa 400-380 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14 mm, 3.70 g), . Sphinx seated to left on groundline; to left, bunch of grapes over Chian amphora; in the field to right, Θ. Rev. Granulated quadripartite incuse square. Baldwin - but see p. 30 = Imhoof-Blumer 134 = Mavrogordato 41a. Extremely rare, Mavrogordato was only able to record three examples; an attractive, toned piece of fine style. Good very fine.
