KYRENAICA. Kyrene. Ophellas, Ptolemaic Governor, second reign, 312-309 BC. Stater (Gold, 17.5 mm, 8.61 g, 5 h), Polyanthes. ΚΥΡΑΝΑΙΟΝ Nike, holding goad in her right hand and the reins in both, driving quadriga moving slowly to the right. Rev. ΠΟΛΥΑΝΘΕΥΣ Zeus-Ammon standing facing, his head turned to the left, holding phiale in his right hand and long staff in his left; to left, thymiaterion. BMC 123 (same dies). Naville 134 (same dies). SNG Copenhagen 1210. A superb piece with an exceptionally well-struck obverse; lightly toned. Minor marks, minor edge bangs and reverse very slightly off-center, otherwise, extremely fine.
