EGYPT. Alexandria. Hadrian, 117-138. Drachm (Bronze, 35.10 mm, 22.81 g, 11 h), year IE = 15 = 130-131. ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ - ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙA CEΒ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian to right. Rev. L IE Emperor, togate, standing in slow quadric to right, holding branch in his right hand and eagle-tipped scepter in his left; before him, Alexandria, wearing elephant's skin headdress, standing left, raising her right arm in greeting and holding a vexillum in her left; all on top of a long, rectangular, garlanded base. Dattari (Savio) 1595 var. (no base). Geissen 1037 var. (same). K&G 32.510 var. (same). RPC III 5780 and 5782 var. (same). A very rare or unpublished variant. Very well struck, clear, with types in high relief, and a pleasing dark green uncleaned patina as found. Extremely fine.
