Constantius II, as Caesar, 324-337. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.38 g, 1 h), Constantinople, 335-336. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB CAES Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantius to left. Rev. CONSTANT-IVS CAESAR / CONS Victory walking to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm branch in her left. RIC 96. A coin with a remarkably elegant, even noble, portrait of Constantius II Caesar. Minor scratches, scuffs and marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
From a European collection, ex Nomos 19 , 17 November 2019, 361.

On the obverse of this coin we see a noble prince, a true preux chevalier in medieval heroic terms. Of course, Constantius was the most competent, efficient and ruthless of Constantine's sons. His piousness made him do his best to ensure that people had proper, Christian burials; and to ensure there were enough people to bury he spent much of life murdering, assassinating and executing people who annoyed him: as, for example, his cousin Delmatius.
