João Prince Regent 960 Reis 1815-B MS63 NGC, Bahia mint, KM307.1, LMB-400. Overstruck on a Mexico Charles III 8 Reales 1773 Mo-FM with a Type I oval bust of George III Bank Dollar of 5 Shillings ND (1797-1799) counterstamp (Levy-RG2). An impressive piece, showcasing deeply engraved motifs, all dressed in a slate tone. A highly desirable counterstamped host for this type, with the engraving of the stamp seemingly so deep that it has been fully preserved despite being sharply overstruck. The first we've handled and only the third we've managed to locate crossing the auction floors in the last couple of decades, with Levy estimating 10 to 15 pieces in existence.
