Caracalla AR Trial Strike(?). Rome, AD 200-202. ANTONINVS AVGVSTVS, laureate and draped bust to right / VOT SVSC DEC PON TR P V COS, Emperor togate, head to left, sacrificing with patera over altar to left. Cf. RIC IV 31 ff. for obverse and cf. 68 for reverse. 6.42g, 21mm, 6h.

Very Fine.

From a private UK collection.

This is a highly unusual object. It weighs double the weight of a normal denarius and bears an obverse type from circa AD 200 and a reverse type from AD 202. It seems plausible that this piece was used as some kind of trial strike.
