Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Ptolemy I Soter Æ 12mm. Alexandria(?), 305-282 BC. Diademed head of Alexander III 'the Great' to right, with ram's horn at temple / [ΠΤΟΛEΜΑΙOΥ] BAΣΙΛEΩ[Σ], eagle standing to left on thunderbolt, with wings spread, HP monogram in left field. CPE B80; SNG Blackburn 1150; Svoronos 239 var. (long-haired Alexander); SNG Copenhagen 59 var. (same); Roma 81, lot 668 (hammer: £280). 2.06g, 12mm, 12h.

Very Fine. Rare.

From a private European collection.

Lorber notes that this series with the HP monogram might not have been minted at Alexandria, citing that they typically have Cypriot or Levantine provenances and that one example of a larger denomination is struck over a Cypriot issue of Demetrios Poliorketes.
