As the 20th century commenced in Europe, the majority of countries still issued coinage in silver and gold. As such, high denomination paper currency was seldom saved, as precious metal coins contained the physical value cherished at the time. This 100 Francs note, in a variety of blue and tan hues, is visually pleasing and extremely rare. Auction data and grading company inventory is spotty at best, but it is safe to ascertain that this handsome example is among the finest extant. Full bodied paper and good colors are seen on both sides. The signature variety of Verstraeten and van Hoegaerden is seen. The watermark in the paper, "FRANCS / 100" still presents boldly. Although the PMG holder indicates that this is a 1901 note, it is actually dated 25th October, 1904. A very rare banknote for Belgium, seldom if ever seen, and spectacular in grade and eye appeal for the type. Total graded by PMG "Not available".
