FRANCE: Louis XIV, 1643-1715, AE medal (121.8g), ND (ca. 1665), 73mm bronze medal for the Beautification and Enlargement of the City of Paris by Molart, laureate and draped bust right with LVDOVICVS XIIII REX CHRISTIANISSIMVS around // the City of Paris personified and seated right on a quay wall of the Seine with cornucopia and ship model, between the Gates of St. Martin and St. Denis with the river god of the Seine in the water at lower left and ORNATA ET AMPLIATA VRBE around and LVTETIA in exergue, plain edge, Choice AU, RR. When researching this medal, the obverse and reverse were both found, but not paired as on the medal here. The obverse die was used on several other medals of this era, as evidenced by the die crack at Louis' shoulder.
