Cnut (1016-1035/36), 'Short Cross' Type, Penny, 1030-1035/36, Shaftesbury, Æthelric, crowned, draped and cuirassed bust left, lys-tipped sceptre before, rev. + ÆLRIC ON SCEFTE : voided short cross, pellet-in-annulet at centre, 6h (BEH, Type H; SCBI 42, 1097 same dies>; North 790; BMC XVI; Spink 1159), a softness of strike to reverse 12 to 2 o'clock, otherwise handsomely cabinet toned, further accentuated by original mint lustre in recesses, a trace of pecking, otherwise a handsomely bold very fine, rare.
