Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), 'Hammer Cross' Penny, 1059-1062, Shaftesbury, Wulfric, crowned and draped bust right, trefoil-tipped sceptre before, rev. + PVLFRIC ON SCÆFT, recumbent S, voided short cross with 'hammer' terminals, 1.14g, 3h (BEH Type G; North 828; BMC XI; Spink 1182), on a slightly concave but broad flan, otherwise richly cabinet toned and beautifully struck up, a uniform and most pleasing extremely fine.
