Richard II (1377-99), Noble, Calais, type IIa, French title omitted, reads hIB, double saltire stops, saltire above sail, straight-sided letters, flag at stern, ropes 3/1 {twisted}, ornaments 1-1-1-1, quatrefoils 4/4, rev. reads MEDIV: ILLORVM, V re-entered, double saltire stops, large r in centre, 7.69g, 8h, i.m. cross pattée [6] (Webb Ware 2a; Stewartby IIa; cf. Schneider I, 155-156, albeit reading hyb; North 1306; Spink 1661), some pecking by portrait and partial striking softness on high points, otherwise naturally surfaces with residual lustre, very fine or marginally better on central devices, rare.
