France Medal (18-19th Century) Heraclius I Emperor (610-611). Silver medal (1400-1402); by an anonymous Flemish master; French Parisian school. Obverse: Bust of Heraclius crowned and twining his long beard in his fingers. Light shines down upon his bust . Inscription: ·ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΣ·ΕΝ·ΧW·TW·ΘW·ΠΙCTOO·BACI·KAI·AVTO·PW·NIKITHC·KAI·AΘΛΟΘΕΤΗC·AEI·AVΓΥCTOC·. Across field inscription: ΑΠΟΛΙΝΙC ILLVMINA·UVL·TVM/TVVM·dEV. On crescent inscription: SVPER TENEBRAS NOSTRAS MILITABOR/ IN GENTIBUS. Reverse: Heraclius seated in a coach, carrying the Cross; the Emperor on a chariot pulled by three harnessed horses. Three lamps hang from a rail above. Inscription: SVΠ·ΕR·ASμ ΙDEM·ET·BAXILISCVM·AMBVLAVIT ET·CONCVLCAVIT ·LEONEM·ET ·dRACONEM. In field inscription: ΔΟΞΑ·ΕΝ·VΨΙCTIC·XW TO/OW·OTI·ΔΙΕΡΡΙΞΕ·CΙΔΙ/ΠΑC·ΠΙΛΑC·KAI·EΛΕVOE/PWCE AΓΙΑΝ ΒΑCI·HΡ/ΑΚΛΕ·. Kress 525; Armand II 8.6; Cott. 195.
