UNCERTAIN. 1st-3rd centuries AD(?). Æ Tessera (25x20mm, 6.89 g). Crescent / Blank. Green earthen patina. VF.
From the MM Collection. Ex Leu Numismatik Web Auction 9 (7 September 2019), lot 465.
At this bronze's last auction appearance it was described as being from Asia Minor. While this certainly remains a possibility, the piece's large size and bronze composition are quite distinct from the known series of uniface tesserae, which mostly originate near Ephesus. Uniface tesserae with simple designs are also known from Spain and central Italy, though again not in this module and metal.
