M. Aurelius Scaurus. 118 BC. AR Serrate Denarius (19mm, 3.36 g, 10h). Narbo mint. Head of Roma right, wearing Phrygian helmet; mark of value to left / Gallic warrior (Bituitus?), hurling spear and holding shield and carnyx, driving galloping biga right. Crawford 282/1(for obv.)/Crawford 282/2-5 (for rev.); Sydenham 523 var. (with SCAVRI in reverse field); Aurelia 20 var. (same); RBW 1106 var. (same). Toned, deep cut on reverse. VF. The reverse lacks the inscription SCAVRI, which is the norm for the rest of the series but is expected on Crawford 282/1. Very rare and possibly unique.
