John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. Æ Hyperpyron Nomisma (24mm, 2.54 g, 6h). Contemporary imitation. Uncertain mint. Struck 1232-1254. Christ enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels / John, wearing loros and holding labarum and akakia, standing facing and being crowned and blessed by the Theotokos. Cf. DOC 6; cf. SB 2073; cf. VAuctions Pegasi XXXII, lot 910. Brassy patina, obverse double struck, deposits. VF. Very rare imitation.
