In an ornately decorated hinged case, apparently molded with cellulite-a synthetic plastic developed in the 1860s and 70s; inside, under a clear cover, a certificate dated September 17, 1870 detailing the award of the medal to Schyler Sowe for a "Jack 1 year and under 2" Uncirculated; choice toning, light hairlines; small corner piece broken from case cover. Fascinating piece.
