Jupiter Auxurus was the protector of the moneyer's ancestral home of Anxur (modern Terracina), a town on the via Appia about 62 miles from Rome. His sanctuary there was a magnificent temple constructed "in opus incertum," a Roman building technique that randomly placed irregularly shaped and uncut stones into concrete.
