Trajan Æ Drachm of Alexandria, Egypt. Date unclear, RY 20 = AD 116/7(?). [..] ϹЄΒ Γ[..](?), laureate head to right, aegis over far shoulder / Distyle Greco-Egyptian temple enclosing a cart with a barge, upon which rests a square shrine, surmounted by hawks, enclosing uncertain objects; [L]-K (sic, date) across fields. RPC III 4951 note (RY 20) var. (wreathed with corn ears) and 4632 (RY 15); cf. Dattari (Savio) 1159 (date recorded by Dattari as [L I]Θ but unclear) = Naville 47, 274 (hammer: £900) and 7278; Emmett 426; Naville 34, 241 (hammer: £1,650). 16.69g, 33mm, 12h.

Near Very Fine. Extremely Rare; seemingly only two examples of this reverse type on CoinArchives.

For the discussion of the potential dating of this issue, cf. RPC III 4632 note (p. 615 or available online) and 4951 (p. 652 or online). It is difficult to determine whether the obverse legend on this example reads ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ΑΡΙ ϹЄΒ or ΑΥΤ ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ϹƐΒ - this would allow us to date the coin to before or after Trajan's adoption of the title Optimus which first appeared on Alexandrian coinage dated RY 18 = AD 114/5.
