Reverse: Stylised horse to left, winged charioteer and five-pointed star above, complex double-rosette motif below, with arrow to left. Two pellets in annulets on exergue line. 7.64 grammes, S.2var, VA 12var. VF or better on a generous flan with some weakness in places, the obverse shows the full face, weakly struck on the cloak lines, with excellent face and hair detail, an extremely rare type with all the key identifiers in place (Complex double rosette, arrow and star, and the two pellets in annulets) the arrow a little weak. A similar type (Ex-Burford Collection) was auctioned in 2018 where it was stated to be one of only 14 recorded, with 5 examples in museums, and one of only three offered for public sale since 1975. (realised £3000 hammer price.) This piece is in superior grade in many aspects. An important and extremely rare piece, one of the earliest coins of the British Isles
