After independence from the United States, the Philippines needed a brand new set of banknotes for the newly formed Central Bank. Thomas de la Rue was tasked with the order, but it took time for the notes to be printed and delivered. In turn, the Central Bank overprinted unused stocks of notes from the American administration and issued the notes as an interim series. This 500 Pesos is the highest denomination of the series and the final variety of the overprinted varieties. Rare in any grade and an especially good note in this near Uncirculated state. A super high face value note in its day and a popular type now.
