Qatar & Dubai ND (1966) P-5a PMG Choice Very Fine 35 50 Riyals

While the 25 Riyals may be the show-stopper note of this series, it is important to note how scarce the 50 Riyals is as well. Qatar and Dubai were British Protectorates until 1971, and in the 1960s they formed a joint Currency Board to administer the issuance of coins and notes. This union would be replaced in 1973 by the independent issuers of the newly formed State of Qatar and United Arab Emirates. The vast majority of the higher denominations of the old Currency Board were redeemed, making this note very scarce today. An article by Peter Symes, published online, indicates that just 2,406 notes of this denomination were outstanding in October of 1997, the second lowest of the series after the 25 Riyals. This 50 Riyals, which is very scarce in any grade, is a problem free example, with only five graded better by PMG at this time. Like the 25 Riyals, this example is problem-free, and does not display the writings and other markings often seen on notes of this series. An excellent and rare note and a compliment to the previous lot.
